Microsoft acquired Skype… it’s time for Apple to push a multi-platform Facetime initiative

Today big news is that Microsoft is acquiring Skype, a VOiP pioneer application, used by millions worldwide and that recently was getting its foot on the living roon thanks to hardware maker implementation on HDTVs and smartphones, for me this is bad news, I am fanboi that have seem how Microsoft has neglected the Macintosh platform with semi-decent updates months away from the official launch of any given problem and with Skype it will be worse, the recent update was a real humiliation to mac users cause mac version look and behave like a real Windows application. Microsoft bureaucratic behavior will kill any Skype advance forcing partners to drop it like dead flies, it’s imminent to expect a name change, something like Microsoft Skype Live, Microsoft Skype Home Premium or Microsoft Skype Enterprise Edition, naturally.
But not everything is lost, Apple’s Facetime could become a real threat to Microsoft-Skype if Apple puts its act together and help third-party developers to move its protocols to another platforms, this is a win-win situation for Apple and mac users, getting Facetime on every mobile phone and desktop pcs could not only help it grows, it can help Apple sell a few million iPhone here and there and even better if AppleTV gain Facetime, it will displace Skype from all mac computers in a flash. Rumors point to Apple launching a Windows version of Facetime for iPhone users on that platform.
I will miss Skype, but it guaranteed quality degradation and outages will make it a non-mac application in not time and Microsoft knows how to screw things up, they will try and try and mac version will be relegated to a second or third class citizenship, Microsoft is all about enterprise and Xbox, there’s not mac on their timeline.
