The AppleTV is a pet project in the hand of Apple, while it may represent a small profit for Apple, it has a lot of potential and one that could turn this little device into a powerful entertainment box is the addiction of the iPhone OS.

With the ability to run thousand of games and with the introduction of HD quality games for the iPad is even easier for developers to adapt their iPad games to work on HDTVs through the AppleTV.

What make this more interesting is that Apple filed for a Remote Control patent (here and here) that in some form can behaves like a Wii or use your iPhone as the main source to control or play games on the AppleTV.

This could really represent a whole new world for Apple to extend its mobile OS into a hobby project with enormous potentials and developers looking to cash from their games and applications, it will be a grand slam if developers create apps that merge information from your favorite social networks and TV programs and if you mix in some form your iPhone, iPad and AppleTV with added autotag features for iTunes, newspapers, magazine or games could means more sales for partners or content providers.

Check some features that I would like to see on AppleTV or the iPad from yesterday post:
1. Autotag
A frequency or tone that broadcast from the TV lets the iPad connect to the a specific page on the internet to continue reading about an offer or info related to any given TV show.

2. Shazam for TV
A similar application that identify a TV show, loads the info, picture gallery, and IMDB with all info about actors and more.

3. TweetTV
An easy to tag Twitter-like app that lets you comment or recommend a tv program, ad or breaking news.

4. PictureThis
An image application that identify any given picture on the screen and loads a image gallery with similar or related images.

5. TV Search
A live TV Search app that lets you find info about people and shows actually playing, loads related shows and info about similars or competing shows in real time. I would like to search for Johnny Depp and receive the complete listing of shows that have Johnny and that you can watch in your cable. At the same time you can collect information about any given topic on specific search, comments, recommendations and reviews.

At the same time the AppleTV must behave as a multimedia port, syncing wirelessly your iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch content and bringing the possibility to download, pause or select scenes in any tv or movie from those devices.
